Madan Mohanka Centre of Excellence In Case Method of Learning

About the Centre

IIM Ahmedabad has recently set up the Madan Mohanka Centre of Excellence in Case Method of Learning (MMCoECML) to strengthen the case pedagogy. The case method has been integral to IIMA’s pedagogical approach since its inception. This new Centre has been established to further that legacy through structured faculty training, support for case development and dissemination, and outreach via conferences and research. The Centre is named in honour of Mr. Madan Mohan Mohanka, PGP 1967 and Chairman, TEGA Industries - who has made significant contributions to management education and industry.

Centre’s Key Activities

  • Promote research, teaching, training, knowledge building, and related activities in the area of the case method of learning
     
  • Coach faculty - induct and continue to support IIMA faculty and others for excelling as case instructors
     
  • Support for developing cases (funding, research assistance, reviewing, and editing)
     
  • Do research on case pedagogy
     
  • Propagate case methodology through conferences, workshops, and short-term Faculty Development Programmes
     
  • Any other related activity that the Institute may deem desirable 

About the Donor

Mr. Madan Mohan Mohanka, Chairman, TEGA Industries, is renowned for his contributions to management education and the Indian manufacturing sector, his innate humanitarianism and his lifelong commitment to excellence in management.  He has created a diversified Indian multinational company, renowned for the design, manufacture and supply of consumables for the mineral processing industry, with 7 manufacturing plants in India and one each in Australia, Chile & South Africa. TEGA Industries have sales offices in 18 different countries, employing 400 people of twenty different nationalities serving 99 countries worldwide.

As an integral part of IIMA curriculum, 14 Case Studies have been written about TEGA Industries, with inputs and insights gleaned from Mr Mohanka. 7 of these have been added to the curriculum at the Harvard Business School.  Mr Mohanka is also deeply committed to the spread of experiential education in rural India, particularly in Rajasthan, Haryana and Bengal and has been instrumental in setting up several high-quality schools in these States, with the intention of ultimately achieving 100% employability in India in the years ahead.
